JULY 4th
‘Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our heritage, we beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning and pure manners... In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness and in days of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.’
- Thomas Jefferson
CHIC to be held in Tennessee - Covenant High in Christ (CHIC) is a youth conference that is held every three years for Covenant youth from throughout the country. Through various speakers and musical groups young people have the opportunity to grow in their relationship with Christ and be challenged in their commitment to Him.
CHIC will be held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville July 12-17. Stephanie Banks, Kristina Lange and Melissa Olson will attend from Wausa and will ride the bus with other Nebraska students and their adult sponsors, leaving from Faith Covenant in Omaha on July 11 and returning on July 18.
Thank you to all who have contributed so generously over the last months, to their expenses for this trip. Thanks for your prayers for them as they attend this life-changing event.
There will be a grief support group at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview on the third Tuesday of each month from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held on July 21st. This free group is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one or friend. For more information or to RSVP call Lisa Glissman-Mayner at 866-300-3479.
Update on “Break the Chains”
From Ruth Hill, national executive director of Women Ministries: Not only did ‘Break the Chains’ break all records in 2008; it continues doing so in 2009. In less than four months, donations passed the $100,000 mark. I’m also grateful for the stories of what Covenanters are doing to engage the topic of human trafficking in ministries in their church, their communities, and beyond. Praise God for this movement in the Covenant. (‘Break the Chains’ is the National Project of Women Ministries of the Evangelical Covenant Church, dealing with ‘Human Trafficking’)
America still needs the Bible! We need courage to face today’s problems and divine wisdom to solve them, just as our forefathers did. We need to renew the spirit of faith in the Book that is the foundation of our personal well-being, and cornerstone of our country’s greatness. Let this book revive in us the spirit of our fathers to face tomorrow unafraid. Let us too turn to the Book that reveals the mind of God, His holiness, His love for lost sinners and His salvation through Jesus Christ. I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this Book. I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go. I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how he could look up into Heaven and say there is no God.
